falling in love with a particular lift

Last night, I made an observation.   I think I have found someone who loves to deadlift almost as much as I like to squat.   Some of our behavioral patterns are the same.   Substitute the unknown lifter below for me, and substitute the deadlift for the squat and things are eerily similar.

1)  it doesn't really matter what you planned to do that day,  when you walk in the door, you know right away you will be pulling something from the ground in some form or another.

2)  we start out with a plan, but it goes right out the door when we hit the gym and the first weight is yanked up off the floor.

3) we think a deload is when we don't put maximal straight weight on a deadlift bar.   the workout usually concludes by some form of 105% effort tugging against something.

4) if our partners are all off deloading or doing something different like actually following a plan, screw them, we will deadlift anyway.

5) when we see others overdoing their deadlift, we immediately recognize it and talk them out of it.   somehow, that doesn't apply to us.

6) we enjoy training the lift in the gym more than we enjoy hitting a big number at the meet.

I probably could go on and on, but I won't.   In addition,  I will not even try and talk you out of it.   It may just work.    Sometimes being pigheaded and obsessed may just get what you want.   Screw percentages, plans, and numbers.   Just go fuck shit up in the gym and hope it carries to the meet.
